It is a 'new journey thus far' for me because at the beginning of this year, i officially started serving fulltime in my church. So my first blog about my life is about this new journey... (Pardon me, i'm not a seasoned blogger yet)
It's been quite a tossing, compact 6 months of rethinking a lot of issues since entering into a new phase of life. Well, apart from all the reorientation and learning to cook and live in my own apartment, etc., one of the most exciting thing for me is the discovery of something i did not intend to discover. If i were to give a theme to this season (or at least to this 6 months), it will probably be this......humbly learning and exposing myself to a whole new reality and a whole new possibility for the future of the church. This is the thing that i've spent time exploring extensively in this 6 months. it has been like learning a whole new language and culture, and at the same time starting to experiment with it. I rashly question a lot of things. unlearning and relearning along the ride. Finally I've learned to live better between the tension of both realities. While i won't spent the time telling you what are the both realities are all about in this post, maybe I'll talk about some of it in the coming posts.
As for my own personal life, it has been about learning to live independently with frugality and thriftiness, It's about learning to live an adult life with skills, self-control and contentment. I don't think I am done with this season yet, but there is certainly much to celebrate thus far. Here are the main lessons that God has been teaching me and that i would like to recount thus far...
- I am not strong. In me I am nothing and have nothing, everything is a gift from God's hand.
- I am a servant, as a servant, I have nothing to give, I can only receive and give what i received.
- It's not about me but about God
- For everything yet to come to pass had it's timing in the will and power of God.
- Doing the things that matters (though it be less and simpler), is doing better and more.
- Doing first things first, second things not at all
- Don't work hard, work right
- Reach the few in order to reach the many.
- The principle of Persons of Peace (PoP)
- Make disciples who make disciples
- Oikos or extended family is the best & most sustainable expression & embodiment for the gospel of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
- Wherever we make disciples, there we plant/build a church.
- The mark and measurement of a disciple of Jesus done biblically is one who is able to reproduce him/herself by discilping others and planting churches (or partnering in planting churches).
- "Every believer is a church planter, and every church is a church planting church"
- All of Christ's disciples were church planters and church planter trainers.
- The fruit of an apple tree is not an apple, but another apple tree or many other apple trees. The fruit of a church planter is not a church, but many more church planters.
- Work from your rest and not rest from your work.
- Identity to significance/achievements and not identity from significance/achievements
- The day begins in the evening. The day begins with our spiritual communion with God and our physical rest/sleep like with Adam..."and there was evening, and there was morning - the sixth day"
- Rush, worry, anxiety and ambition is a sign of lack of rest/abide
- All healthy individual, nuclear family, extended family lives are built around rhythms, namely, UP, IN, and OUT.
- You don't build family life around a mechanistic church life, rather you build a natural church life around natural family life rhythms. After all, the most biblical & predominant model/form of church is that of the communal life of an extended family (oikos).
- Church life is holistic, integrated, everyday life, just as family life is everyday life. It's about putting church life to where it belongs - integrated into the life of an extended family.
- it's about experiencing church as a constant, integrated, communal state of living rather than a choppy, dualistic, divided, event-based only existence.
- The bible's language for church is that of a body, family, community, therefore the leaders of the church should be that of spiritual fathers & mothers, uncles and aunties (elders) rather than that of a CEO styled senior pastor, bosses, etc.
- Be contented in every season for your life and rest in God in every season.
- Don't ever think that it will not change.
- Also don't forget that in every season, it's normal to have constant change of weather like rainy or sunny moments.
This is all that i can think of for the moment. It's quite fun welcoming myself back to blogging although i know this is a terrible blog. Lolz. Well hope to improve.
Haha you should continue blogging :)
